On a continual basis, we hear the horror stories about identity theft. According to the Federal Trade Commission, it is the number one consumer crime in the country and it is devastating, both emotionally and financially, to recover from. So why does Honkamp Krueger & Co., P.C. care about the identity theft problem? Because it greatly affects our clients in two different ways:

1. A business can cause identity theft by being irresponsible with sensitive non-public information. When a business loses information, it is called a data security breach and they happen almost daily in this country.

2. Employees can become victims of identity theft. If you have an employee that becomes a victim of identity theft, it will greatly affect his/her morale and productivity.

Information protection
First, we can help you better protect the sensitive information your customers and employees have entrusted you with, including social security numbers, credit/debit card numbers, birth dates, etc. We can create a policy for how that outlines how you handle non-public, sensitive information. We will train your employees on this policy and have them sign-off on this policy. As a result, you have conducted some due diligence in trying to combat a data security breach in your organization. You may not be able to prevent a data security breach, but conducting these steps is better than ignoring the growing problem.

Personal ID theft reduction
Second, during the policy training, we also give your employees hints and suggestions on steps they can take in their personal lives to reduce the chances of identity theft. We also offer a service that your employees can enroll in which monitors their credit for identity theft and has 100% restoration of identities if anyone has a problem with identity theft.
