A graduate of both the University of Iowa and Loras College, Arnie accumulated over 35 years of experience in public and private accounting. In 1973, Arnie joined the John W. Law Company, a local data processing firm. By 1985, the firm had grown into a certified public accounting firm, and it was required by law to be named after a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). To accommodate this rule, Arnie famously joked about legally changing his name to John Law, but in the end, used his own name and his business partner’s name, Alan W. Krueger, to name the firm Honkamp Krueger & Co., P.C.
With an entrepreneurial spirit and passionate leadership style, Arnie, along with the partners and staff, grew the firm to become a Top 100 CPA firm in the country. In addition to the CPA firm, Arnie also spearheaded the establishment of two affiliate companies, HK Financial Services, Inc. and HKP.
Nothing pleased Arnie more than the thousands of businesses and people the firm has helped over the years. In a firm video, Arnie stated, “The greatest satisfaction that I have received over the years is working with clients and helping them be successful.” Arnie was well-known for going above-and-beyond for his clients, always doing what was in their best interests.
After his 2009 retirement until his passing in 2014, Arnie clocked in time at the office, almost daily, to continue his immense community and civic work. Although well known for his keen business sense, Arnie’s generosity of his time and resources, love and dedication to his family, and sincere concern for others stemming from his strong Catholic beliefs far outweighed his business reputation.
