IRS delays tax deadlines for Dubuque and Jackson counties in Iowa

September 6, 2024

Last week, the IRS announced delayed tax deadlines for Dubuque and Jackson counties in Iowa.

The adjustments come in response to damaging storms that hit parts of the state in April, May and June.

Taxpayers in Dubuque and Jackson counties now have until November 1, 2024, to file various federal and individual tax returns and to make estimated payments that originally were due between May 20 and November 1.

The tax relief applies to individual, corporate, and estate and trust income tax returns; partnership returns; S corporation returns; returns of tax-exempt organizations; and employment and certain excise tax returns that have either an original or extended due date occurring within each of the respective dates listed below. Relief also applies to payments due during the respective windows, including the quarterly estimated tax payments due on September 16, 2024, and the quarterly payroll and excise tax returns.

(The IRS previously delayed tax deadlines for more than 50 other counties in Iowa. You can find the full list here.)

Important note: The Iowa Department of Revenue has not issued similar relief to Dubuque and Jackson counties.

Taxpayers in these counties should continue to make Iowa estimates based on the original due dates. However, if a taxpayer’s records were destroyed by the storms, the IDR has issued penalty abatement procedures.
